Joe's Surf Club

This is a link that I thought was pretty funny:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et_MmlTxMXA&feature=player_embedded#

It puts the whole "do it yourself" attitude of internet how-to's in a negative light.  While there are a lot of competent people online, it's good to realize that there are a lot of mistakes and bad advice too.  Have you guys found anything completely ridiculous online posing as good advice?

  1. This movie shows a funny aspect on the entire "do it yourself" idea of the internet. I havent particularly found anything online that poses as good bad advice. One thing that I have noticed that is funny is "self help sites" that often pop us as advertisements or that buy ad space on the side of facebook... Do people ever really go to "self help" sites and find real, life changing help? I guess its possible..

  2. When I was considering this topic, I found this web site http://www.zd85.com/ with the following introduction:

This web site exists to provide you with really BAD ADVICE. But, all of our advice is FREE, so it is worth every penny you pay for it.

It's nice to know that in the whole wide world of the internet, someone is acknowledging the value of their advice.

  3. This British article goes beyond criticizing self help web pages and attacks self help books. It claims that the concept of "self help" is ridiculous in the first place. It brings up some interesting points.

  6. I think that the Expert Village series of how-to videos on YouTube is one that could be described as something like this. They pose themselves as a quality source, introducing themselves at the beginning, and stating their credentials, but that is where the quality ends. They either typically give no advice, or break the series up into about 20 videos that are each like 30 seconds long, making it impossible to watch.

  7. I found this amusing video while watching the video posted. It shows a man trying to multitask with different things going on just within his day at the office. I agree that this is good advice, that our brain cannot work efficiently and productively when we multitask. This is because we can get distracted easily with other things that seem more important to us than what they really are.
